FAA's Partnership in Research and Development Booklet Highlights PI's TerrAvoid

July 1, 1997

In its yearly assessment of technology partners the FAA's booklet entitled, "Partnerships in Research and Development" paid particular tribute to the innovations of one of Position Integrity's product, its TerrAvoid system.  The FAA provided R&D funding from its Vertical Flight Office to adapt Position Integrity's terrain avoidance system for use by helicopters.  The collaboration proved to be a winner for both organizations.  The FAA was able to leverage the sizable investment in TerrAvoid already funded by the military in a way to benefit commercial and general aviation sectors.  Position Integrity gained increased visibility with FAA's administrators and received assistance with system certification.

A flight test at the John Hughes Technical Center in Atlantic City, NJ is planned as the culmination of this phase of R&D collaboration.
