Overview
Position Integrity is the proud sponsor of DAFIF.ORG, an organization dedicated
to expanding the awareness and possibilites of the Digital Aeronautical Flight
Information File (DAFIF).
DAFIF is possibly one of the best public-domain global
aeronautical databases. One that rivals the fee-based, proprietary data supplied
by such ARINC 424 vendors as Jeppesen. Position Integrity has been working with DAFIF since its
inception and has built a number of applications that make use of its deep
content. We are also sweeping DAFIF into our global Aviation Safety Database that
is used to supply tailored aviation data extracts to various commercial, military, and
scientific organizations.
We hope you find this page useful and please
excuse the commercial look of this page. We hope to give it a more traditional
".ORG" look and feel soon. If you have any questions, please feel
free to contact us.

We are working to expand this page
to include better resources for using and processing DAFIF. In the meantime, we encourage you to
visit the official NIMA DAFIF website where you can download the current version of
DAFIF along with specifications:

Sample Applications
Although DAFIF is available in several different formats, it doesn't include an
accompanying geographical
viewer. As such, we have built one! Our FREE DAFIF Viewer allows you
to view multiple DAFIF records in conjunction with other GIS data products (maps)
including raster images in the GeoTIFF format. By clicking on a DAFIF object
(e.g. an airport symbol), you can obtain expanded information about the object.
We're working on posting the application to this page for download. In the meantime,
here's a screenshot:
SPECIAL UPDATE ON DAFIF VIEWER AVAILABILITY:
The Position Integrity DAFIF Viewer was originally developed for NASA JPL to aid in the evaluation
of DAFIF as a commercially viable data source. In recent years, NIMA has been releasing
DAFIF in the MapInfo and ESRI (shape) geographical formats in addition to the standard
DAFIF/DAFIFT formats. As such, Position Integrity has discontinued the availability of its
viewer. As an alternative, we suggest using ESRI's free lightweight viewer, Arc Explorer
in conjunction with the AVDAFIF data available in the standard DAFIF distribution and download.
Arc Explorer is available as a native Windows version as well as a platform-independent Java
version. It can be downloaded from ESRI at the following URL:
http://www.esri.com/software/arcexplorer.
Then go to the DAFIF Home Page
and download the current AVDAFIF distribution, which is a collection of ESRI Shape files.
For more information about DAFIF and how to use the data with your application, please
contact us by telephone or email.
